NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS

As some of you may know I talk every so often with Steve Murphy and as I would think all of you know there has been little to no news about either Playmates or NECA's next TMNT figure offerings.
Well I got tired of waiting for someone to spring some news so I went to Murph and shot some questions his way, while not totally informative and brutally sad this is more news than we've been given at all from either party concerning our favorite green guys.

I asked:
I was wondering if there are going to be any back to the sewer figures and when can we expect them?By that I mean figures sculpted to look like the show, not the movie figures with cyber gear on them.

Murph's Answer:
"The BTTS figures look more like the movie turtles than the showturtles, sorry to report. They should be out any day now I'm told."

I said:
I really wish there was something I could do to change things.I guess the best thing to do is not give up on my own dreams and if I ever make my own toy line to never lose what my intentions had been from the start and that is to create awesome looking characters that are appealing to the senses.I think the reason the old toys are so much fun is because people like Ryan Brown had been so involved in the creative process, but even looking back Playmates rejected almost every amazing idea Peter ever had which btw blows my mind considering he's one half of the creative team behind this property.Seems to me that companies have no respect for the people behind what's making them money and a line that put there stupid little company on the map.

Murph Said:
"I couldn't have put it better, man.Playmates is lame, no doubt about it. The sad part about it is thatthe old school TMNT figures were so much fun, so cool and creative.Ever since Next Mutation it's been pretty much boredom."

I Asked:
Any NECA news? My comic book guy said he saw the Shredder series in the new issue of previews but when he tried to show me he couldn't find it.

Murph's Answer:
"We have not heard a peep out of NECA regarding the next releasefigure, whatever it is. No news from NECA since just prior to SDCC2008, in fact. No idea why not. To date Mirage has approved Shredder,Utrom, Foot Soldier and Elite Foot Guard figures. Again, no idea when they're coming out."

So there you go folks Not really mind blowing but more like tear shedding news for the lot of you.

The actual Turtle figures from Next Mutation remain some of my favorites, but everything else was on a scale of meh to crappy.

Makes me want to learn what an emo is and become one....

Just watch Spider-Man 3. ;)

Lol @ Rose, the only Next Mutation figures I still have are Simon & Silver (sounds like a detective show lol)
Things are most def. in a very sad state though, I'm pretty much heading in your direction of not buying anything turtles anymore unless it's well done.
It's tough because when people at the top don't even care how are the rest of us little guys [& gals ;)]
Thanks for the comment btw.

Oh, I'm well beyond that point. Being well done isn't even part of my criteria. The ONLY stuff I allow myself to buy are comics, DVDs, NECA action figures, and the rare Playmates figure (for example, I just bought the mini-mutants that came with the Elite Guard and multi-armed Shredder). Anything else, no matter how cool, I don't buy. Period.

-->> ..so is gonna be held against me cuz i actually, really bad want that stupid build a figure ??

Is it gonna be used as a point against me cuz i really want those sick little Shredder variants.

I ain' a completest. Never had the money or the mindset that'd evver be able to.

I appreciate the fact that you guys are really narrowing your choices and making specific decisions.

All in all ..it's also better for your pocket book and the environment. Are you even taking those things into consideration ??

I've had no choice but to make these decisions my entire life in this silly fandom .. and i've had to and continue ( like you guys ) bust my ass for all this shit since i was kid.

This sh7t that i like and will purchase shouldn't be held against me.

It never EVER should have been held against me in the first place !!

.. .. i hope it won't be now.

Not at this point.

lol you're beyond that point eh? so what are you not buying because just about everything you've listed is just about the only things I've bought as of late myself and there really hasn't even been that much stuff to buy.

Vaughn Michael said...

I don't care what you buy Dave it's not my money and yes trust me I was just talking to some one tonight about not buying things you don't need to have money for more important things you do need like food and good health.
Boy I guess I'm becoming an adult when I make such statements.

I was kinda interested in the build-a-Splinter, but I guess Playmates has changed it so that you have to buy regular-sized figures to get the pieces. Really, this is as it should be, so I guess that's a good move on their part, but that might be too many shitty figures for me to be able to bother with it.

T-shirts, the little knick-knacks that Hot Topic sells. The Chirstmas ornaments that will be coming out. I can't list 'em all, but there's a lot of stuff I've said no to.

Rose,
Well then I guess you're still buying more than even me because I'm further gone from it all than that.
I won't buy a single old school styled shirt of the 4 turtles with corny saying.
If the items are of the ugly movie styled turtles I refuse to buy anything with them on it or using the same sculpt.
Companies need to learn to make money they need to spend money.

roseangelo said...

What are you talking about? Those are all things I WON'T buy, and you buy more Playmates than me. :p

Vaughn Michael said...

ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo hahahah
I thought that was a list of things you got hahaha because I remember you buying this christmas crap last year haha. My bad, anyway I've only been buying the mini Mutants because while the turtles suck ass the other characters they come with have been well sculpted and pretty well articulated for mini toys.
I give people credit when it is due but Playmates have screwed up much more than they have done good things.

I'm guessing Cyber Shredder is going to be a repaint as well. Doesn't that just suck...the new cartoon gets a bunch of repaints and yet they spend money sculpting the music Turtles?

I guess they won't spend any money on what Mirage wants but will throw away cash for their own "original" and stupid ideas.

If they wanted to do repaints it would have been very easy to repaint the original Fast Forward figures. Then at least all the cartoon toys would still be in scale. But that wouldn't be giving the screws to the people who created the property, so they opted against it I'm sure.

And when it all fails they'll blame the show and withdraw their funding. I'll stick to NECA, thanks.

Vaughn Michael said...

R,
I'll be sticking to NECA also but let's hope they start releasing figures and talking to Mirage about everything.
Those Music TMNT figures are not new sculpts btw they just sculpted bits over the movie turtles we've all seen a million times now.
I didn't like the movie turtle figures the first time I saw them and I still don't like them after the 100th variant barbie dress up turtles we've gotten.

The S said...

With all that's been said recently...

I really like the Leo Vs. Raptor set that Darth_CJJ got his hands on. That's the way to go if you're going to do repaints - something not integral to the series or line.

Speaking of repaints... tOkKa, have you ever thought of repainting Shredder to be red like your artwork?

~ tOkKa said...

-->> ..well not necessarily red.. good idea tho'. thanks..

One Shredder i started .. was actually ..

like a re-retro one.

Hard to explain .. ::

there is a simplicity to the original 1988 Shredder figure i like.

Took the 2003 removable armor version and started to color match the blue and purples of the original figure. Also gave him a cape similar to the effect of the original hunched over figure.

88 Shredder is one creepy m .f. .. not sure he gets the appreciation he deserves.

I've not ever posted this custom anywhere.

But he's here and needs some touching up.

The S said...

I'd like to see that one some time, tOkKa.

You know else I'd want to see?

The f7cking Sub-Sewer monster figures.

Screw you Playmates.

Vaughn Michael said...

S,
I really want them also.
I want them to come out now even more so now that they have been on the show.
They are indeed pricks and I wish they would go away so Mirage could have Hasbro or Matel make the damn toys and just get crap out on the shelves.

RB said...

Hey Vaughn, thanks for the mention! Means a lot!
